Three-hinged arch bridge, Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, Pa
The Pennsylvania Bridges Collection contains photographs of railroad bridges in Pennsylvania, mostly western Pennsylvania, taken between 1884–1915. The photographs (155 items) depict different types of bridges, structural details, transmission towers, and bridge construction. The bridges were used by at least seventeen different railroads. The collection was compiled by Professor Henry Jacoby, Cornell University, Civil Engineering Department, and purchased in 1991. The most noteworthy photographers featured in the collection are: H.B. Harmer, R.W. Johnston, F.H. Miller, C.K. Mohler, H.E. Platt, and L.R. Snow. The collection complements the numerous railroad-related collections housed with the Historical Collections and Labor Archives. For additional information, contact Dr. James P. Quigel, jpq1@psu.edu.
