New Leisure Reading Collection Arrives at University Park

Leisure Reading Collection
Course Reserves on the first floor of Pattee Library, west, is now home to a leisure reading collection. Consisting of both fiction and non-fiction best-sellers and award winning titles, this collection was established in direct response to student requests for books that are both enjoyable to read and easy to find in the library. The Leisure Reading Collection fits into both the Libraries’ and University’s mission to provide student-centered education and services.
Currently, the collection includes about 650 books and that number will continue to grow as new books are added. Many are books that resided in other areas of the Pattee and Paterno Libraries. Additional materials are being added through the Baker and Taylor book leasing plan.
The book lease option allows the Libraries to constantly renew the collection’s contents, ensuring the latest and greatest titles that patrons want to read, as well as providing multiple copies of extremely popular titles that can be sent back once the popularity wanes.
Use of the collection is open to all Penn State library patrons, including Penn State alumni. All of the books are searchable in the library catalog (The CAT). Typing 'leisure reading' into the search box will bring up a list of the titles. Holds can then be placed by clicking on the 'I Want It' button in the CAT. The circulation periods are the same as all other library books.
The collection, a list of the top ten circulating titles, and related blog can be viewed online at http://www.libraries.psu.edu/lls/leisure_reading/index.html. Comments and book selection suggestions posted to the blog are welcome. The next time you visit University Park, please stop by and see this exciting new collection!
