Alumni Library

Donor Timeline

Since it began in 1859, Penn State Libraries have benefitted from private philanthropy-to name a few-the first initial collection of Colonial Records, the first endowment in 1888 that continues in 2009 to purchase valuable items for the Life Sciences Library, and the building of Carnegie Library in 1904. Today's philanthropy is providing resources for the new Knowledge Commons in Pattee Library-a model that puts libraries at the center of learning and combines the expertise of information specialists with outstanding collections to give students the information literacy skills that the challenges of the modern world will mandate.
