In 1857, Andrew Gregg Curtin, who was governor of Pennsylvania from 1861–1867 gave a gift of 14 books to the fledgling Farmer's High School of Pennsylvania. This collection of early American history signaled Penn State's future as more than a technical school. Philanthropy has remained key to Penn State's library growth, and today the collection exceeds 5.2 million books.
Beyond books, today Penn State's University Libraries collections include more than 500 databases, 50,000 E-books, and more than 33,000 full-text online journals. In addition, the Libraries offer access to more than 107 million electronic resources through Worldcat.
